Vaccines
& Adjuvants
Aphios has demonstrated that its
SuperFluids™
CFI pathogen inactivation technology has the capability
for inactivating most viruses with negligible impact on protein
integrity and antigenicity. Using SuperFluids™
CFI, the Company is developing a cost-effective HIV/AIDS vaccine.
The Company is also developing a controlled release HIV/AIDS
vaccine adjuvant utilizing its SuperFluids™
biodegradable polymer nanospheres technology.
-
HIV/AIDS Vaccine -- The AIDS epidemic
continues to spread, affecting millions of people worldwide.
Only a safe and effective vaccine can arrest further rampage
of this deadly disease. According to current consensus,
a successful HIV vaccine will include a combination of
several antigens and adjuvants to generate the broadest
immune response possible. Aphios has demonstrated that
SuperFluids™
CFI, with the capability for inactivating HIV, has negligible
impact on protein integrity and antigenicity. Aphios is
utilizing this technique for the creation of HIV/AIDS
vaccines from genetically engineered HIV virions for a
greater degree of safety and from combinations of different
HIV strains for a broader degree of protection. The HIV
vaccine manufacturing technology is cost-effective, amenable
to large-scale processing and quite portable.
-
HIV/AIDS Vaccine Adjuvant – Aphios
is also developing a controlled release vehicle for HIV/AIDS
vaccines by utilizing biodegradable polymeric nanospheres
to protect and sustain the release of HIV viral antigens.
This drug delivery vehicle will have the capability to
deliver either whole inactivated HIV virions and/or HIV
subunit vaccines. HIV antigens will be encapsulated by
a nanoencapsulation technique that utilizes SuperFluids™.
These fluids replace potentially harmful organic solvents,
such as methylene chloride and ethyl acetate, eliminating
the adverse effects of organic solvents to the potent
but sensitive antigens, while reducing costs by eliminating
unnecessary processing steps and improving the manufacturing
environment.
Aphios’ vaccine and adjuvant manufacturing
technologies will also find utility in the treatment of viral
diseases such as influenza and others caused by emerging viral
pathogens.
