Delivery
Nanotechnologies
For
the enhanced delivery of drugs ranging from potent anticancer
therapeutics to large recombinant proteins, Aphios Corporation
has developed and patented several
enabling nanotechnologies [U.S. and International Patents]:
•
Protein
Nanoparticles: Based on a SuperFluids™ rapid
expansion mechanism, protein nanoparticles for enhanced drug
delivery of protein macromolecules can be generated without
reduction in protein integrity and efficacy in a solvent-free
process. This technology can be used for pulmonary delivery
of proteins and polypeptides such as insulin for diabetes;
and oral/depot delivery of vaccine antigens.
•
Polymer Nanospheres: Through
reverse engineering of the rapid expansion mechanism, biodegradable
polymeric nanospheres for the controlled delivery and release
of proteins can be manufactured utilizing SuperFluids™
technologies. This technology can be used for oral/depot
delivery of proteins such as calcitonin for osteoporosis and
controlled-release adjuvants of vaccine antigens for infectious
diseases.
•
Phospholipid Nanosomes: By
a similar mechanism, phospholipid nanosomes (small uniform
liposomes) for the enhanced delivery of water-soluble (hydrophilic)
drugs and water-insoluble (hydrophobic) drugs can be produced
without the use of toxic organic solvents. This technology
can be used for intravenous and/or topical administration
of small hydrophilic molecules, proteins and genes, and hydrophobic
anticancer drugs such as paclitaxel
and camptothecin.
These technologies are available for licensing on a product-specific
basis to strategic corporate partners. Aphios will provide
technology support as well as research and manufacturing units.
We will also establish development and commercialization partnerships
utilizing Aphios’ proprietary drug delivery nanotechnologies,
out-license enhanced natural therapeutics such as Taxosomes™,
and conduct contract R&D such as that recently conducted
for a multinational pharmaceutical company on the manufacturing
of solvent-free polymer microspheres for protein delivery.
Aphios
has utilized these technologies to develop several enhanced
therapeutic products. For more information on the
application of these enabling nanotechnologies to your pharmaceutical
and/or biotechnology products, contact Dr. Trevor P. Castor
