Drug
Discovery
The discovery of anticancer drugs, anti-infectives and quality-of-life
medicines from marine organisms, terrestrial plants and microorganisms
from extremeophilic environments can be enhanced by utilizing
SuperFluids™ CXF fractionation
technologies [U.S. Patents].
Aphios is screening its unique library of 1,400+ diverse
marine microorganisms,
isolated from normal to extremeophilic environments in United
States territorial waters, for antiviral and antimicrobial
therapeutics. Our discovery portfolio includes several
anti-HIV, anti-influenza
and anti-smallpox
“hits,” and a marine antimicrobial compound
that is effective against oral microorganisms that cause plaque,
caries and gingivitis, multi-drug resistant (MDR) human pathogens
such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus
[MRSA] and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium [VRE],
and Bacillus anthracis [anthrax].
Our research has been funded through grants and collaborations
with the Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards
and Technology (NIST) and the National Institutes of Health
(NIH). We have ongoing research agreements with the National
Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), United
States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases
(USAMRIID) and the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP).
Our business strategy is to discover, develop and license
out these compounds to strategic corporate partners. We
will also out-license SuperFluids™ CXF technologies
to strategic corporate partners and research institutions.
